In July 2007, the Benjamin Rose Institute entered into a three-year agreement with the U.S. Administration on Aging (AoA). The objective was to help area agencies on aging and others in the Aging Services Network to implement changes mandated by the 2006 reauthorization of the Older Americans Act.
AoA is seeking to modernize the delivery of long-term care in a way that is responsive to the preferences of older Americans and their caregivers. Funds and information are shared through the Aging Services Network, which is made up of more than 56 state units on aging, 655 area agencies on aging, more than 240 tribal organizations, approximately 29,000 community service providers, and several national professional associations. During the year, BRI worked with AoA and others to develop communication and integration strategies to bring the network together. Additional goals are to strategically develop a new framework for planning aging services and provide technical assistance to network members as they adjust to the changes
The successful enactment of the AoA's vision and goals will empower older adults across the nation to live healthier and more active lives in settings of their own choice.
