Gobble Up the Holiday Spirit at Gunning Park Rose Center's Turkey Bowl

Seniors compete to bring awareness and a holiday meal to tables in Northeast Ohio

WHAT: The Rose Centers for Aging Well Turkey Bowl
Participants will bowl with a Cornish hen, knocking down canned side dishes to win. The overall winner will leave with a Thanksgiving bird and ample bragging rights. After the competition, participating Rose Center seniors will enjoy lunch.

WHY: Last year, the holidays were hard on everyone, but especially older people experiencing an increase in social isolation. While studies are still forthcoming on long-term effects the COVID-19 pandemic will have on our overall well-being, loneliness and isolation are proven to be connected with increase cognitive decline and memory loss as we get older.

The Rose Centers for Aging Well have been working hard to combat this rising issue in Northeast Ohio neighborhoods by providing transportation, programming, and daily meals to older adults, enabling more than 2,200 people to live independently at home and stay active in their communities. This Turkey Bowl celebrates the relaunch of in-person activities at many of their six Greater Cleveland locations. The Rose Centers are a member of Meals on Wheels America and a subsidiary of Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging.

Rose Center Director, Abigail Carney, and Executive Director of Rose Centers and Vice President of Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging, Dabney Conwell, will be on hand for interviews.
