Meals on Wheels

Our program team delivers nutritious hot and cold meals to the homes of adults 60 and older who are unable to shop for or prepare meals independently, with medically tailored meal options available.

At Benjamin Rose, we believe that access to fresh, healthy and filling food is an important aspect of maintaining wellness and preventing malnutrition. If you and your loved one are concerned about access to food in the home, we offer home delivery service of nutritious hot and cold meals.

Participants in our Meals on Wheels program will receive one meal a day Monday through Friday, delivered between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Professionally trained home-delivered meals staff deliver meals directly to you or your loved one’s door. Our delivery teams treat your loved one with courtesy and respect, and provide a familiar and friendly face to check-in on loved ones at home.

Our menus offer balanced meals to meet each participant’s nutritional needs, including foods containing protein, dairy and starch, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. Menus include both hot and cold entrées such as turkey or cold cut sandwiches, fruit cups and yogurt, as well as a choice of milk or juice as a beverage. We ask that you please let us know of any dietary restrictions when scheduling meals, as some of our meals can be tailored to accommodate specific needs.

FAQs

Am I eligible to receive Meals on Wheels?

To be eligible for meals through our program, participants must:

  • Be unable to shop for or prepare meals independently
  • Live in Cuyahoga County
  • Be at least 60 years of age to receive meals free of charge, or be able to self-pay if under the age of 60. Please call (216) 373-1994 to inquire about the self-pay option.

Is there are different options to choose between for the daily meal?

We have a choice of a hot meal, a cold sandwich that rotates (roast beef, tuna, turkey) and a chicken salad platter and sandwich.  As mentioned above, please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions.

Do I have to be at home to receive the meal? What if I have an appointment or am on vacation?

You need to be at home, or family member needs to be at home to receive the meals on your behalf.  Our team is unable to leave your meals for pick up outside if no one comes to the door, as the meals include perishable items like dairy and meat which need to be kept at specific temperatures to stay safe for consumption.

If you will not be at home to receive your delivery, contact the Home Delivered Meals Administrator. Frequently not being at home to receive your meal could potentially end your service. Vacations or hospital stays can be accommodated with proper communication with the Home Delivered Meals Administrator.

Can meals be reheated?

The meals can be re-heated in a microwave oven or a regular oven.  Please follow the re-heating instructions that are provided with the meal. 

Who prepares the meals?

 TRIO Community Meals is the caterer for the nutrition program. TRIO is a nationwide food expert in preparing congregate and home delivered food. 

Will meals still be delivered during inclement weather or on holidays?

If poor weather prevents us from making our normal scheduled deliveries, our delivery team will alert you or your loved one to planned closings in advance, or closings can be confirmed by checking the local news or calling into our office.

Meals will not be delivered on the following holidays:

  • New Years Day
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Day
  • President’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Indigenous Peoples Day (formerly known as Columbus Day)
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • The day after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day.
