Senior Citizen Resources Merger (SCR) FAQ

Why is this happening?

A: This decision is driven by a changing funding landscape and rising operational costs. By uniting under the Benjamin Rose umbrella, SCR can continue its important work while benefiting from increased stability and capacity.

What will happen to the staff? Will they have to reapply for their jobs?

A: We’ve met with the SCR staff to talk through the changes. As part of the merger, some tasks currently handled by staff will be absorbed into the larger Benjamin Rose organization. We’ve reviewed updated job roles with the current team, and our goal—and hope—is that they choose to continue on as Benjamin Rose employees. All staff will need to apply for these roles and complete a background check, which is part of our standard hiring process.

Are you planning to move the location?

No. The SCR location in Old Brooklyn will remain open and continue to serve the community from the same site.

What is the plan for transportation services?

Transportation has always been an important part of SCR’s services, and that commitment will continue. While Benjamin Rose does not operate its own fleet, it partners with Senior Transportation Connection (STC)—a trusted provider that will take over transportation services under a formal contract. STC will provide rides to and from the center as well as group trips, just like you’ve experienced in the past.

We know this is a big change, but we’re working hard to make the transition as smooth as possible.

There will be some changes, especially related to individual trips such as to and from medical appointments. SCR will work with you to determine alternative transportation options.

What will happen to our home delivered meals program?

A: Home delivered meals will continue without interruption. Benjamin Rose is committed to ensuring that all current meal recipients continue to receive the nutrition and support they rely on.

Will congregate meals still be available at our site?

A: Yes. Congregate meals will continue to be served at the SCR location. There are no plans to reduce or remove meal services as part of the merger.

How will this impact programming at our center?

A: Programs and services that are important to participants will continue. Over time, you may see new opportunities, events, or resources become available as part of the expanded Rose Centers for Aging Well network.

What will happen to our newsletter?

A: Benjamin Rose publishes a monthly newsletter that includes updates and information from all the Rose Centers. Going forward, content from the SCR newsletter will be folded into this publication. You’ll still receive information specific to your center—including programs, events and news—so you can stay informed and connected with everything happening in Old Brooklyn.

Will there be a name change?

A: Yes. SCR will become part of the Rose Centers for Aging Well, a network of community senior centers operated by Benjamin Rose. The SCR location will be renamed the Rose Center for Aging Well in Old Brooklyn.

Who is Benjamin Rose?

A: Benjamin Rose is a Cleveland-based nonprofit organization that has been supporting older adults and caregivers for over 100 years. It provides a wide range of services, including senior centers, home- and community-based care, and caregiver support programs.
