Hoarding Connection

The Hoarding Connection of Cuyahoga County (HCCC) is a group of more than 20 organizations from the public, nonprofit and private sectors working together to address the issue of hoarding in the community.

The Hoarding Connection promotes a comprehensive approach to helping individuals who hoard while protecting the safety of the community and individuals who respond to hoarding situations. To do this, the group:

  • Provides public information to improve community awareness of hoarding as a mental health issue
  • Educates professionals and organizations in contact with people who hoard about this illness and the resources currently in place to address hoarding in the community
  • Organizes peer-led treatment groups for individuals with hoarding disorder
  • Delivers education and training for professionals and organizations to enhance their capacity to respond effectively to hoarding cases they encounter
  • Develops and disseminates information that can be used by organizations across Cuyahoga County to advocate on behalf of individuals with hoarding disorder.

During the last year, the Hoarding Connection members planned and offered an annual conference attended by professionals from a wide range of public, private and nonprofit organizations; delivered presentations to groups interested in learning more about hoarding as a mental illness; and organized five peer-led treatment groups for individuals with hoarding disorder. Members have also provided expert testimony to inform municipal legislation and regulations related to hoarding.

The Hoarding Connection is administered by Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging and receives funding from the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County. Further information is available on its website at www.hoardingconnectioncc.org.
